Security expert reveals two major security flaws in Zoom

Whether it’s for work or play, Zoom has become a much bigger part of our lives since the start of 2020. And as remote work continues to feature in many people’s lives, this seems unlikely to change anytime soon . But as with any app that people depend on, there are security issues to consider when using Zoom — and one cybersecurity researcher recently raised two important ones.

At this year’s DEF CON, a hacking conference held in Las Vegas, cybersecurity expert Patrick Wardle revealed two security issues with Zoom that could have significant consequences for people with Zoom installed on their Macs.

As reported by Engadget, Warldle indicated that the security check used by Zoom could be used in such a way that a hacker could access the root directory of the Mac. Wardle told Zoom about the problem, but apparently Zoom’s method of fixing it created another vulnerability — one that could cause an older, less secure version of Zoom to be installed instead of the latest version.

Fortunately, Zoom is aware of these issues. The company told The Verge that they are currently working on a fix that will resolve them.
