January 16, 2023 – Officials at the Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) and Southbridge Lakehead Manor, located at 135 Vickers St S, have announced the respiratory outbreak previously announced at Southbridge Lakehead Manor – 4th Floor Expanded, to include Southbridge Lakehead Manor – Floor 6, in Thunder Bay, from January 16, 2023.
All admissions, transfers, discharges and social activities are canceled in the affected units until further notice. Visitors are limited to family members and caregivers only, so please call the facility for more information.
The health unit is urging people to refrain from visiting hospitals and long-term care facilities when they are unwell to avoid spreading infections to the most vulnerable: young babies and children, the elderly and people with other chronic conditions.
The health department reminds the public that they can prevent getting and spreading infections by:
- Keeping up-to-date on flu and COVID-19 vaccinations.
- Washing hands frequently for at least 20 seconds with soap and warm water or using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- Covering coughs/sneezes with the upper sleeve if a tissue is not available.
- Stay home when you are sick to avoid spreading infections to others.
