New light installed in external battery

Area residents say new lights have gone up in the outdoor battery following the council’s decision not to enforce a nuisance lighting bylaw.

Resident Christina Smith says she is disappointed by the council’s decision and surprised that Deputy Mayor Sheila O’Leary was the only member to vote in favor of the motion.

Smith says that after the meeting, another light went on in the neighborhood. She says the new set installed Tuesday is identical to the current set and is installed vertically instead of horizontally.

She fears residents will have to fight the issue in court. Smith says not every resident has the ability to take the matter to court, and a legal battle could easily be avoided by implementing a bylaw preventing excessive lighting.
