Mississauga-based Ericsson Canada has been ranked the fourth best employer in the country, according to an annual survey conducted by Forbes.
The Swedish telecommunications giant, which employs more than 104,000 people worldwide, is headquartered in its Canadian operations on Matheson Boulevard. e.
It made the top five on Forbes’ list of Canada’s 300 Best Employers, published Wednesday (Jan. 25).
The annual list is developed based on independent surveys of more than 12,000 employees working part-time or full-time for Canadian companies employing at least 500 people.
Marriott International (Canada), Mercedes-Benz (Canada) and Purolator are the other Mississauga-based companies that make the top 50. Of the four that made the cut, Purolator is the only 100 percent Canadian company.
Marriott, which employs 120,000 people worldwide and is based in Maryland, ranked 22nd on the list.
Mercedes-Benz, which is headquartered in Germany and employs more than 173,000 people, is 24th on the list.
Both companies’ Canadian headquarters are also located on Matheson Blvd. e.
Purolator, based in Meadowvale and employing 14,000 people, ranked 46th on the list. The Canadian courier company was also recognized in 2022 as number 14 on the list of Canada’s Best Employers for Diversity.
The city of Mississauga, which employs about 5,800 people, ranks 52nd on the list.
A total of 24 Mississauga-based companies appear in the top 300.
Oakville-based Sheridan College (3,380 employees) ranked first on the list, followed by the Canadian Mental Health Association (Toronto, 5,000 employees) and Keg Steakhouse & Bar (Richmond, British Columbia, 10,400 employees). After Ericsson at number 4, Export Development Canada (Ottawa, 2,032 employees) rounds out the top five.
Survey participants were asked to rate how likely they were to recommend their current employer and whether they would recommend employers other than their own.
These factors and more were used to create the final list of 300, Forbes says.
For the City of Mississauga, this is the fourth year in a row that it has been recognized on the list.
