Environment Canada has released tornado clocks for several areas in New Brunswick.
A tornado clock is in effect for Woodstock and Carlton County, Stanley, Docktown, Blackville and Fredericton and Southern York County.
“Conditions are favorable for the development of strong thunderstorms, which can lead to tornadoes,” said Environment Canada.
“This is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation.”
While tornado clocks remain in effect, Debbie White, an environment Canada metrologist, said that by 4:30 p.m., the risks had diminished as storms moved east.
Severe thunderstorm warnings are also in place for the area west of Stanley and east of the Northumberland Strait.
The risk continues
White says the situation with thunderstorms on Sunday is similar to what the province saw on Saturday.
A series of thunderstorms passing through the countryside should be clarified in a few hours, but more will develop tonight.
“There will be a short break and then again later,” White said.
As on Saturday, the main risk of storms will be heavy rainfall with possible total rainfall of 40 mm in some areas.
White said the risk of heavy thunderstorms should end by 2 a.m. Monday morning.
