A Punjabi gangster rapper was killed in a shooting on May 29 in India, a day after he lost police protection and two days after the Pacific National Exhibition postponed ticket sales for an upcoming concert in Vancouver.

Shibhu Musewala, 28, was born Shubhdip Singh Sidhu. He moved to Brampton, Ont. in 2016 and is best known for songs such as “Mafia Style” and “Homicide” and the brandishing of AK-47 pistols and submachine guns in his viral YouTube videos. His latest video, The Last Ride, included a hearse.

According to India Today, Moosewala was shot dead in a village in the Mansa district of Punjab. A video from the crime scene shows onlookers around the jeep and the lifeless body of the Museum in the driver’s seat. Just a day earlier, Punjab police withdrew the guards of 424 current and former politicians and religious leaders. Moosewala unsuccessfully ran for the Punjab assembly.

Amarinder Singh, a former Indian Army veteran and former Punjab chief minister, tweeted condolences to the Musevala family. “Law and order has completely collapsed in the Punjab. “Criminals have no fear of the law,” Singh wrote.

On May 27, PNE delayed ticket sales for Moosewala’s July 23 concert at the Pacific Coliseum while consulting with the Vancouver Police Department. This was to be the first stop on the Back 2 Business summer tour of Canada and the United States in eight cities. PNE’s TicketLeader sales website announced that tickets for $ 75- $ 200 (plus service fee) are scheduled to go on sale on June 6. Other dates from the summer tour go on sale this weekend.

PNE spokeswoman Laura Balance said the time between the contract and the pre-sale period was very short, so the scene decided to conduct a risk assessment in parallel.

“As of this afternoon, we have not been able to fully establish the full level of public safety risks with this particular event,” Balance said on May 27. “So with great care, through our talks today with our public safety stakeholders, we will not go on sale tomorrow until we have completed the public safety risk assessment.”

Three years ago, Moosewala’s slot at the 5X Block Party Festival at Central City Plaza in Surrey was canceled after the Surrey RCMP assessed it as a security risk. In February 2019, a man was stabbed during the appearance of Muzvala in the banquet halls and the Congress Center of Bollywood. In May of that year, shots were fired at a banquet hall in Calgary, where he was performing at the Museum.

Balance said the PNE is very proud of its events, including those involving the South Asian community, but must conduct due diligence, whether it is a family skating event or a concert.

Moosewala also has a well-publicized rivalry with another rapper, Karan Aujla, who is scheduled to play at the Colosseum on September 10.
